“No invitation has been made by Dr. Larijani to former British foreign secretary,” Majlis Public Relations Department said in an announcement on Saturday.
Such “media mischief” merely disturbs public opinion and the local media outlets must first check the authenticity of the news before publishing them, the announcement added.
‘British mischief’
Top legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi also dismissed the report, describing it as “British mischief”.
“I suppose publishing such false news is linked to the upcoming elections of the Majlis principlist faction” and Larijani’s candidacy for chairing the faction, Boroujerdi told reporters on Saturday.
“However, such mischief would have no effect on the faction elections,” said Boroujerdi, chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
He added that Britain uses every opportunity to serve its own interests, but the Iranian government and Majlis do not see any promotion in their relations with Britain unless it drops its hostile policies toward Iran.
“Larijani’s stance on relations with Britain is clear, serious, and firm,” the senior parliamentarian observed.
Boroujerdi went on to say that Britain has repeatedly accused Iran of violating human rights and also claimed that Tehran has violated the NPT in its peaceful nuclear drive.
However, the Iranian nation “has seen through Britain’s conspiracy,” he noted.
A number of lawmakers have proposed cutting ties with Britain and the Majlis is pursuing the matter, he added.
