TEHRAN, Aug. 21 (MNA) -- An Iranian graphic artist has created 300 typographic illustrations of the characters in the Shahnameh over the past two years.

Dariush Mokhtari is seeking a sponsor to begin illustrating stories from Ferdowsi’s epic masterpiece in typography, the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

“I am looking for someone to provide the necessary funds for illustrating all the scenes of battles and festivals for the book,” Mokhtari said.

He is currently doing illustrations and storing them until he finds a sponsor willing to finance publishing them in a book.

He said that he needs ten billion rials (about one million dollars) to illustrate all the stories from the Shahnameh in a year’s time.

Mokhtari has previously created about 3000 posters of typography of verses from the Holy Quran.

Much budding graphic art talent lies among Iranian youth, he said.

“Unfortunately, few opportunities are provided for them to blossom in the country,” lamented Mokhtari who is also a sculptor.
