TEHRAN, Dec. 8 (MNA) -- Ten Iranian publishers submitted 29 titles to participate in Leipzig Book Fair 2010, competing for “The Most Beautiful Book in the World” award.

As the representative of the German Book Art Foundation in Iran, Shabaviz Publications chose the Iranian books for the competition, the managing director of the publication Farideh Khalatbari mentioned.

Publishers, including Negar, Fekr-e Ruz, Peydayesh, Shabaviz, Mosalas and Yasavoli, will participate at the event, she said.

Three jury members, including a graphic artist, a sketcher and a painter, selected the works submitted by 38 publishers out of which ten publishers were selected, she mentioned.

Khalatbari stressed that a well-designed arrangement and form of a book are the most important factors in this competition, saying that graphic, illustration, paper type and print quality should create a visual beauty for the work chosen to be submitted as an entry.

As world publishers that participate in the event publish in different languages, the content of the book is not considered during the competition, she mentioned.

The books will also be submitted to the Frankfurt Book Fair after the winners are announced by Leipzig fair, she added.

Iran has no representative at the Bolonga Children’s Book Fair due its concurrency with the Leipzig fair, she said.

The Leipzig Book Fair is a traditional springtime event with a strong appeal to the general public. It offers its visitors a special kind of book experience.

The fair brings together exhibitors in various categories including academic, audio books, art books, calendars, children’s books, comic books, cartoons, fiction and non-fiction, and school textbooks.

The Leipzig Book Fair will be held from March 18 to 21 and later in the year from October 6 to 10 Germany will host the Frankfurt Book Fair.
