Mashhad, July 24 (MNA) -- 16 people were killed and 31 others injured after an Iranian passenger plane made an emergency landing in Mashhad on Friday.

Aria Airlines Flight 1525 took off from Tehran and its definition was Mashhad. The plane caught fire while the pilot was attempting to land in Mashhad, reportedly because a tire burst.

However, officials at Mashhad’s Shahid Hasheminejad Airport told IRNA that the cause of the accident is not clear yet.

The Khorasan Razavi Province Governor General’s Office said that 153 passengers were on board the Ilyushin aircraft but gave no further details.

The crash came less than 10 days after Caspian Airlines Flight 7908 -- a 23-year-old Russian-made Tupolev Tu154M plane -- crashed in northwestern Iran, killing all 153 passengers and 15 crew members aboard.
