TEHRAN, Apr. 21 (MNA) -- Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi has proposed that an international Islamic tribunal should be established for trying cases of serious crimes committed against Muslims or Islamic states.

Ayatollah Shahroudi made the proposal at the international conference of Islamic prosecutors, which opened in Tehran on Tuesday.

Over 200 legal experts from Islamic states are attending the conference.

The conference is being held to document the war crimes the Zionist regime committed against Palestinians during the 22-day Gaza war, for which there is abundant evidence.

The Islamic prosecutors will hold negotiations to determine a way to file a legal suit against Tel Aviv for its human rights violations.

Israel’s military foray into the occupied territories left over 1400 Gazans dead, most of them non-combatants.

Judiciary chief calls for prosecution of Israeli officials

Addressing the international conference of Islamic prosecutors, Ayatollah Shahroudi urged the prosecutors to utilize the documentation of Israel’s human rights violations and massacres in the Gaza Strip to prosecute Israeli officials.

“Expelling Palestinians from their motherland and preventing their return, illegal executions through (a policy of) state terrorism, the destruction of essential infrastructure (in Gaza), kidnapping and torturing political activists of the resistance movement… have been the foundation of the policy of this regime over the course of its disgraceful history,” the Iranian Judiciary chief said.

“Special attention should be paid to the Israeli regime’s strikes on the Gaza Strip and the 22-day war which, along with the crimes in Qana and Sabra and Shatila, is another stain on the Zionist regime’s bloody record,” Ayatollah Shahroudi noted.

Israel’s criminal activity is a manifestation of genocide: speaker

Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani pointed out that Israel’s criminal activity is a “clear manifestation of genocide”.

“An example of this genocide is the siege of hundreds of thousands in Palestine, Gaza, and the West Bank,” he told conference participants.

It is unacceptable for a regime to be allowed to commit terrorist acts across the globe, even in Europe, and enjoy the support of the United States, he observed.

“Occupation, the siege of hundreds of thousands, state terrorism, racism, massacres, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and the use of prohibited weapons are some of the crimes Israel has committed,” Larijani added.

He also expressed hope that the conference would encourage the international community to begin shouldering its responsibility and answering the call of duty.

Minister urges UN Security Council to stop applying double standards

Intelligence Minister Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei urged the United Nations Security Council to stop applying double standards.

“This council should refer the (Gaza) issue to an international tribunal and make the provisions for the prosecution of the Israeli criminals,” he stressed.

Mohseni Ejei condemned the brutal slaughter of Gazans during the 22-day war, adding, “During the Zionist regime’s inhumane attack on Gaza… we witnessed the slaughter and injury of thousands of Palestinians, including women and children. Through the support of some governments, including the United States, as well as the incompetence of international organizations, the attack caused another humanitarian crisis in the current century.”

“The occupying Zionist regime has openly trampled upon the Palestinians’ human rights through occupation, slaughters, plundering the property of Palestinians… because of its aggressive approach and racist nature.”
