The statement by Mottaki came as the Cairo officials has claimed Hezbollah was trying to do “acts of aggression inside” Egypt, something analysts have interpreted as an attempt by Egypt to demonize Hezbollah as its leader Hassan Nasrallh criticized Egypt’s behavior during the Gaza war.
Analysts also say the accusation is an attempt to provoke political dispute in Lebanon as the country is nearing parliamentary elections.
Talking in a press conference with his Omani counterpart Yussef bin Alawi, Mottaki said the agreement reached between rival Lebanese factions in the Doha meeting in May last year was a great achievement for Lebanon.
On 21 May 2008, all major Lebanese parties signed an accord to elect Michel Suleiman president and establish a government of national unity with a veto share for opposition parties.
Mottaki said Lebanon has taken two major steps since the Doha meeting by electing president and forming new government and now Lebanon is to take its third step by holding parliamentary election.
Mottaki said certain outside countries are seeking to disrupt the election through ‘political sedition’.
He also thanked his counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit Tehran, saying Iran welcomes such meetings as it enjoys historic relations with Oman.
The minister said Iran has extended economic ties with Oman in recent years since the Ahmadinejad administration took office.
He said Iran’s petrochemical projects in Oman, a gas pipeline to transfer Iran’s gas to Oman, and also Omani government’s assistance to Iranian firms in doing their projects show rising economic ties between the two nations.
