TEHRAN, June 28 (Mehr News Agency) -– A photo exhibition showcasing Iranian cultural-historical museum relics opened on Wednesday in Greek Navigation Museum in Athens.

Cosponsored by Iran’s Cultural Office in Greece and UNESCO Office, a total of 100 works by Iranian photographer Houman Sadr is on display at the museum.

Participating in the inaugural ceremony, Iranian ambassador to Athens pointed to the long established cultural relations between the two nations adding that the development of European countries stems from the rich science and culture of the Islamic world.

Pointing to the fact that over 300,000 ancient artifacts are preserved in Iran National Museum, Mohammad-Taqi Mo’ayyed hoped that a collection of the historical items will soon be showcased in Greece with the collaboration of Greek cultural officials.

As one of the participants in the opening ceremony, head of UNESCO Office in Athens also praised the idea of dialogue among civilizations initiated by President Mohammad Khatami in 2001, and expressed his satisfaction over holding such an exhibition.

Dialogue among civilizations is the only means to reach peace and unity across the globe and each nation is to respect his own cultural identity, honoring cultures of other nations as well, he mentioned, adding that “Presenting the rich cultures of ancient civilizations of Iran, Greece, Egypt and Italy, will help fight against the idea of “Clashes of Civilizations” initiated by Samuel Huntington (1731-1796).”

The 7,000-year-old history of Iran is on display at the exhibition for one week.
