Iranian photographer wins prize at Brazilian contest
TEHRAN -- Iranian photographer Kazem Hosseini’s “Nature Palette” won a silver medal at the 44th Salão Jauense International Photography Contest in Brazil.
The fair is one of the most prestigious events in Brazil and is sponsored by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).
Islamic Encyclopedia Center opens library for Persian Gulf studies
TEHRAN -- The Great Islamic Encyclopedia Center has recently opened a library for Persian Gulf studies.
The library, which has been named after the Persian Gulf, contains a collection of books and documents donated by Iranian scholar Ahmad Eqtedari Eqtedari.
Eqtedari, who is author of about 200 academic articles and 40 historical books on Iran, will be present at the library three days a week to help guide researchers working on historical and Persian Gulf issues.
Film Museum to display historic stills of Iranian cinema
TEHRAN –- An early series of stills of Iranian cinema captured 100 years ago will go on display at the Film Museum of Iran.
Taken by Ebrahim Khan Akkasbashi, the stills are taken from old Persian films including “Lor Girl,” the first sound film produced in the Persian language, and will go on display in old, rebuilt theaters with wooden chairs at the venue.
Iranian photographers line up for Belgian festival
TEHRAN -- Some 44 Iranian photographers will take part in the Knokke-Heist Photo Festival, which will be held in Belgium in 2009.
Photographers including Mirkian Roshannia, Mohsen Halvaii, Mehdi Amani, Zeinab Arabi, Gohar Tajkiani, Laya Sarabi and Hadi Derakhshan have submitted their works to the secretariat of the festival.
The festival will be held in April 2009in four sections, namely Satire, Nature, People and Art.
