TEHRAN, Dec. 9 (MNA) -- The world largest soil carpet under the tile of “Persian Gulf” was inaugurated on Hormoz Island in southern Iran on Tuesday.

The soil carpet covering an area of 1200 square meters is made of 70 different colors of soil, the Miras-e Arya News Agency reported on Monday.

Manager of the project Mohammad Banuj said, “Twenty-five artists from Hormozgan Province collaborated on the 10-day project that began November 29.  They used the rare colorful soil of the island in making the soil carpet.

“Before this project, the world’s largest soil carpet was made on the Canary Island and measured 900 square meters. Iran’s carpet soil can be regarded the world largest one and will probably make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The variety of colors, designs, and the size has made it a unique artwork, Banuj said, adding, “Its title ‘Persian Gulf’ is a cultural act of preserving the name of the Persian Gulf, which also gives it a high value.”

The carpet soil will be on display for a week on the Sang Morghi Coast of Hormoz Island.
