TEHRAN, Oct.19 (MNA) -- The second ministerial meeting on women’s role in development of Islamic world is to be held in Cairo on November 24-26, 2008.

Foreign ministers of OIC’s member states will attend the three-day meeting.

Women’s status in Islamic countries and promotion of their roles in development of societies are among the issues to be discussed at the conference.

Accordingly, high-ranking officials of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) held a meeting in Jidda on September 11, 2008.

The status of women in Islamic societies is an integral part of the OIC’s Ten Year Program of Action.

The OIC Program of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW) is the result of the First Ministerial Conference on Women’s Role in Development that was held in Istanbul in 2006.

The ministerial meeting is held every two years.

Women’s affairs and their roles in development of Islamic world have also been discussed in the 32nd Conference of Islamic Foreign Ministers which was held in Yemen in 2005.
