Each plaque will bear the profile of Master Salimi, said secretary of the festival Tohid Delavar-Qavam, adding that Azeri artist and singer Vadud Mo’azzenzadeh will be designing the plaque.
The festival is organized by the Ardebil Art Bureau and aims to revive and preserve the traditional Azeri music. Singers from northwest Iran including Tabriz, Urumiyeh, Zanjan and Ardebil, as well as Azeri singers from Tehran are participating in the event.
The two-day event will be held in Ardebil on July 15 and 16, and the winners of the festival from each different category will receive a plaque, Fars News Agency reported on Saturday.
Ali Salimi (1922-1996) was born in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan. Many years before his birth, his father migrated from Ardebil to Baku in order to earn livelihood. The Master attended the classes of the famous musician of Azerbaijan Ahmed Baki Khanov.
His family returned to Iran in 1938 and resided in their hometown of Ardebil. In 1965, when the famous Azeri singer from Baku Rashid Behbudov came to Iran for a concert, he was very impressed when he listened to one of Salimi’s compositions named Ayrilig (Separation), and asked the Master for permission to play the piece in Baku.
Master Salimi obtained degree 5 (the highest degree in the art of music) in composition from Azerbaijan, and was an official member of the prominent composers of Baku.
