TEHRAN, Oct. 22 (Mehr News Agency) – A prominent Iranian contemporary poet said that culture and civilization is indebted to Iranian literature and the world recognizes us by famous poets such as Hafiz, Sa'di and Rumi.

He made this remark on Tuesday night at the 4th International Assembly of Persian Language and Literature Professors as both Iranian and literary figures from other countries participated.

Moshfeq Kashani pointed out that even after the lapse of several centuries, people around the world still murmur mystic poems by these poets and this indicates the global status of Persian poets.

Kashani, head of the Association of Iranian Poets, stressed that Iranian artists, writers and poets who are currently creating new works should fully exploit the potential of the Persian language.

He said that in the course of history, foreigners have targeted this land on a large scale, but fortunately have not been able to destroy the Persian language.

Kashani welcomed the foreign guests and recited two poems to the audience.

Other contemporary Iranian poets including Ali Mousavi Garmaroudi, Mohammadreza Abdolmalekian and Fatemeh Rakei recited their new poems.

Iranian traditional music was performed at the end of the meeting.
