TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (Mehr News Agency) – German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said shortly after his arrival in Tehran that the purpose of his visit is to encourage Iran to make its nuclear program transparent.

Fischer told the Mehr News Agency that there are some ambiguities about Iran’s nuclear program that hopefully will be clarified.

When asked whether a new era of relations between Iran and the European Union would be opened if Tehran agreed to sign the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) he said the question should be settled later.

About the content of today’s talks he said, “We should wait and see.”

However, Fischer expressed hope that the talks with Iranian officials would prove constructive.
