TEHRAN, April 28 (MNA) – Iran held negotiations with Guinea on imports of bauxite via the port of Conakry, said Iranian deputy minister of industries and mines on Saturday.

The meeting took place in Germany and was attended by Iranian deputy minister of industries and mines and minister of mines and geology of Guinea.

Mohammad-Hosein Bassiri added that making decision on bauxite transition via pipes to Iran, putting the project into international tender for selecting the contractor, and studying the physical progress of the project are of the main topics discussed in the meeting.

The suggested plan is to transmit the mineral material to Conakry port via pipes and then to transfer it to Iran by a ship, he said.

Iran was granted an exploration permission of a bauxite mine in Boke region by Guinea’s former president which is near the port, he said, adding that the exploration operation of the region has been started.

Aluminum ore, called bauxite, is most commonly formed in deeply weathered rocks. In some locations, deeply weather volcanic rocks, usually basalt, form bauxite deposits.
