TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) – The Friday prayers leader of the Iranian southern city of Kazeroun has been shot in an assassination attempt by an unidentified assailant, according to local officials.

Latest media reports have said that Mohammad Sabahi is in critical condition after he was shot by an unidentified gunman, who killed himself after carrying out the assassination attempt.

The cleric has been admitted to a local hospital in Kazeroun in Khuzestan Province after leading the Friday prayers in the city, said the governor of Kazeroun, Mohammad Ali Bekhrad, on Friday. 

Investigations on the incident are underway.
