The local Turkish media and Reuters said the accident occurred when a passenger bus collided with two cars and a truck on a highway in Mersin’s Tarsus district.
“According to initial findings, unfortunately 10 citizens lost their lives, and 39 were injured in the accident,” Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X.
State-owned Anadolu Agency reported that emergency medical, firefighting and police teams were dispatched to the accident site.
The bus was heading towards Istanbul from Diyarbakir.
“A judicial investigation has been initiated by the Tarsus Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the accident, and three public prosecutors have been assigned under the coordination of the Tarsus Chief Public Prosecutor,” said Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc.
In December, 10 people died and 61 others were injured in northwestern Sakarya province after seven vehicles collided in another multiple car accident, the local media said.
