TEHRAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) – The spokesman of the Tehran Fire Department in Iran said Thursday that a gas explosion in a construction site in the east of the capital Tehran has six people and wounded 1.

"A fire in a construction workshop near the Shahid Yassini motorway near the East Terminal in Tehran caused an accident at 13:02," said Jalal Maleki, the spokesperson of Tehran Municipality Fire Department.

"Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene of the accident and could see that in a construction site, there were several 12 square meter rooms that were home to the workers. One of these rooms, which was about 10 square meters big, caught fire and unfortunately, 6 non-Iranian workers lost their lives subsequently," the spokesman said.

"Another worker was also injured and was transferred to the hospital by the paramedics" he concluded.

It was reported earlier today by local media in Tehran that a gas canister blast was to blame for the fire.
