TEHRAN, Mar. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s new ambassador to Brazil Abdollah Nekunam says the Islamic Republic is to further expand relations with Brazil in the framework of mutual interest.

Nekunam started his mission in Brazil on Tuesday.

Nowadays, countries are able to maintain close relations not due to proximity but owing to enjoying mutual interest, the diplomat wrote on his social media account.

Nekunam met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Saturday before departing Tehran for Brasilia to start his diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, Amirabdollhian stressed the importance of relations between the two countries in political, economic and international fields.

He also underlined cooperation in the BRICS group of emerging economies.

Nekunam has served as Iran consular in Munich, Hong Kong, and Macao.
