TEHRAN, Jan. 23 (MNA) – The Iranian top diplomat urged the international community to stop the aggression of the Zionist regime against Syria and the violation of the country's territorial integrity.

Geir O. Pedersen, the UN Special Envoy for Syria met and held talks with  Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in New York.

In this meeting, Pedersen appreciated the constructive and effective role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fight against terrorism and in helping to solve the political crisis of Syria, including in the Astana process. 

Emphasizing the necessity of continuing Iran's role in any political initiative, Pedersen said that the continuation of the crisis in Palestine and Gaza had a negative and destructive effect on regional peace processes.

Amir-Abdollahian also emphasized the necessity of the serious determination of the international community and the cooperation of regional countries and international institutions for a decisive and effective fight against the sinister phenomenon of terrorism.

He called for the serious efforts of the international community to stop the aggression of the Zionist regime against Syria and the violation of the country's territorial integrity.
