The current situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was the focus of telephone talks between the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Russian foreign ministry said on Sunday, according to media reports.
"Key attention during the call was focused on the current situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The sides expressed concern over the continuing armed confrontation in the Gaza Strip," it said. "The sides stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and emergency relief aid to the civilian population."
The ministers also discussed a schedule of the upcoming contacts and other current issues on the bilateral and international agenda of mutual interest, the ministry said, adding that the call was initiated by the Iranian side.
According to the readout of the phone call from the Iranian foreign ministry, the top Iranian diplomat discussed and exchanged opinions with his Russian counterpart about the developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Referring to the relentless attacks of the Zionist regime against civilians, the top Iranian diplomat said that the United States claims to be seeking to stop the war, but in practice, it is escalating and intensifying the scope of the American-Zionist war.
He considered the martyrdom of more than 15,000 civilians, women and children and the death of dozens of prisoners in Gaza to be the result of the Israeli regime's indiscriminate bombings and the continuation of the Zionist regime's attacks.
Highlighting the need to prevent ethnic cleansing and the forcible displacement of residents of Gaza and the West Bank, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the need for Russia to play a more active role in achieving peace and security in the region and added, "Resistance will undoubtedly determine the final result."
The Russian Foreign Minister, for his part, expressed his disappointment with the opposition of the Zionist regime to stop its attacks.
Lavrov emphasized the continuation of negotiations to stop the war and releasing the prisoners.
The two sides also discussed some bilateral issues.
