TEHRAN, June 20 (Mehr News Agency) – Head of Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, said here on Friday the country is hopeful for winning medals in five fields in 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The NOC chief who talked on programs for the Olympics added Iran has eyed the medals in football, taekwondo, wrestling, weightlifting, and judo competitions.

 

He said some federations whose sportsmen have potentials for qualifying for the Olympic Games are doing their best.

 

The committee agrees with the training camps inside and outside the country and overseas tournaments, said Hashemi-Taba adding that most of the federations have already offered their plans for the Olympic and Asian Games that will be discussed soon.

 

“Based on its articles of association, the National Olympic Committee has certain duties. According to this year’s calendar , the committee hosts an Islamic states’ table tennis tournament, dispatches jockeys to an Islamic countries’ equestrian event in Saudi Arabia, and sends the country’s sportsmen to the West Asian competitions and Asian-African contests in New Delhi, India,” said the ranking official.
