TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (MNA) – The Cultural Week of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) started in the 2006 Cultural Capital of Islam, Isfahan, central Iran, on Monday, the Persian service of IRNA reported.

 

Head of the 8th general assembly of ISESCO, Mahmud Farshidi, said at the opening ceremony that the program aims to help strengthen cultural ties between the Islamic countries and develop the Muslims’ interactions.

 

Isfahan Governor Morteza Bakhtiari also delivering speech at the opening ceremony said, “Isfahan has long had a major role in promoting Islamic culture, and the choosing of Isfahan as the cultural capital of Islam is a great honor.”

 

Later in the day, the exhibition of Islamic art opened at the Isfahan Museum of Contemporary Art in the presence of the ambassadors of Islamic countries and ISESCO officials.

 

The exhibition includes the two calligraphy and Palestinian-themed poster sections.

 

A total of 50 works by masters such as Mohammad Ehsaii, Jalil Rasuli, Abbas Akhavein, Ahmad Falsafi, and Yadollah Kaboli are on display.

 

The poster section hosts 100 works selected from the first and second biennials of the world of Islam.

 

Several other programs, including children’s painting exhibition, book fair, and photo exhibit are also scheduled during the weeklong event.
