TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has called for the immediate release of Assadollah Assadi, an Iranian diplomat detained in Belgium.

Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement on Tuesday that the process of detention and trial of Assadollah Assadi has been flawed and in violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The Iranian spokesman added that Iran has previously formally protested to Austria, Germany, and Belgium, repeatedly denying the allegations against him.

He called on Belgium to immediately release the Iranian citizen.
