TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (MNA) -– Kerman Motor Company (KMC) is to import Volkswagen (VW) Touareg and Passat passenger cars to Iran through its Bam branch. The marketing part of the business is already underway, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Sunday.

The KMC also intends to build VW cars in Bam with the capacity of 200,000 units by 2008, projecting an investment of $100m for purchasing related equipment and machinery as well as investing 500-600 billion rials in construction and installation projects. The project aims at manufacturing 70% of the parts required by domestic market.

 

The KMC, as the VW’s auto rep. and licensee in Iran, has so far produced 5,000 VWs since March 21, and plans to hit the 12,000-unit figure by March 20, 2006. Furthermore, Bora production in Iran, a model made by VW of Mexico, is going to be another KMC’s joint venture.
