During the phone call that was made on Monday, President Hassan Rouhani instructed Governor General Houshang Bazyar to mobilize all resources in the province to address the situation and accelerate the relief process delivered to the injured.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 shook Kermanshah province in western Iran on Sunday night, injuring 729 people but no casualties reported so far, according to the latest reports.
According to Iranian Seismological Center, the quake was at a depth of 9 km, which is considered shallow, 20 km from Sarpol-e Zahab. The quake had also affected Iraq along the shared borders with Kermanshah.
Last night’s earthquake occurred almost a year after a devastating 7.3-magnitude quake hit the same province, particularly Sarpol-e Zahab, in what came to be considered as the deadliest of 2017 with over 400 people dead, and 7,100 injured.
