Zarif, Russian FM Lavrov discuss JCPOA in Rome
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov had a meeting on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (MED) in Rome.
During the Friday meeting, the two diplomats discussed bilateral ties between Tehran and Moscow and the latest developments regarding the Iran nuclear deal.
They also talked about regional issues, particularly the developments of Syria and Yemen.
Iran FM, UN’s Syria Envoy Hold Talks in Rome
Zarif on Friday held talks with the UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, in the Italian capital of Rome.
During the meeting, the two sides conferred on the latest developments in Syria, the political resolution of crisis, drafting the country"s Constitution, dispatch of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Arab state.
Iranian, Japanese FMs hold talks in Rome
Iranian and Japanese foreign ministers met at a luncheon banquet hosted by the East Asian diplomat in the Italian capital, Rome.
In the Friday meeting, Iran’s Mohammad Javad Zarif and his opposite number Taro Kono discussed the latest developments in Tehran-Tokyo relations.
They also exchanged views on the Iran nuclear deal as well as regional and international developments, including the situation in Yemen, Syria and North Korea.
Iran FM, top Italian lawmaker meet in Rome
Zarif has held talks with President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico in Rome.
During the Friday meeting, the top Italian lawmaker highlighted the good and age-old relations between the two countries. Fico said he is confident that Iran is a key player in the region and in the international system.
He also touched upon the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He said the US’withdrawal from the agreement created some problems, but Italy and Europe will spare no effort to preserve the deal and keep the channel for dialogue and diplomacy open.
The top Iranian diplomat, in turn, described Tehran-Rome ties as historical, age-old and good, and conveyed to him the warm greetings of and an invitation from Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
Zarif pointed to the JCPOA and Washington’s unilateral and illegal pullout from the deal, saying the United States’ relentless pressure on other countries is regarded as unusual bullying and breach of the law which will have negative short-term and long-term consequence for the international system.
“We will pass through this phase, but such an approach will create problems for the international system,” said Zarif.
The two sides also discussed the promotion of reciprocal ties, especially in the domain of economy, tackling the existing obstacles, parliamentary cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
FM Zarif, Maltese counterpart confer on regional issues in Rome
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday held talks with his Maltese counterpart Carmelo Abela in the Italian capital Rome.
During the talks, the two sides conferred on the Iran nuclear deal, bilateral relations between Iran and Malta, regional issues including the developments in Syria and Yemen, and other issues of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, Oman"s deputy foreign minister came toZarif"s residence and held talks with him on the latest developments in bilateral ties and regional issues.
Iranian, Swedish FMs hold talks on Yemen peace
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström had a phone conversation on Friday.
During the talks, the two sides exchanged views on a fresh round of Yemen peace talks, which is to be held in Stockholm, and Iran"s efforts to ensure its success.
