Iran’s Acting Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami met with Russian president’s special representative for humanitarian cooperation with the Caspian countries Ramazan Abdulatipov in Moscow on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Iranian ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei.
In the meeting, the two officials stressed the need for expanding bilateral relations between Iran and Russia, as the two countries are under the US sanctions.
Eslami said that in the new conditions that both Iran and Russia are under unilateral US sanctions, they should expand their cooperation and lay the ground for closer relations.
Also, Ramazan Abdulatipov, for his part, noted that both countries face the United States’ sanctions, so they should enhance their cooperation.
Abdulatipov said that Russia is ready to expand cooperation with Iran in various fields, especially in the economic and transport sectors.
He pointed to the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and called for accelerating the project.
The International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7,200-km-long multi-mode network of ship, rail, and road route for moving freight between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe. Research findings have shown that if the project is put into operation it will reduce transport costs by $2,500 per 15 tons of cargo.
