TEHRAN, Nov. 9 (MNA) – The head of Iran's Foreign Policy Strategic Council Kamal Kharrazi called on the international community to urgently address the deplorable situation in the war-torn Yemen.

Kharrazi rebuked crimes against humanity in the war against Yemen and asked for the cooperation of other countries to take necessary measures to end the bloodshed in the war-torn country.

The former Iranian FM made the remarks during a meeting with Former Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Vienna on Friday.

Fischer, for his part, said the war in Yemen has hugely undermined people’s lives calling for necessary measures to bring peace back to the Arab country.

He expressed hope that arms sellers stop supplying weapons to countries committing war crimes in Yemen.

Kharrazi had formerly said that the support and freedom provided by the United States to the Saudi-led military attacks in Yemen and a lack of political will were the main reasons for the bloody conflict in Yemen.

Impoverished Yemen has remained wracked by violence since 2015, when Saudi Arabia, the United States and their allies launched a devastating air campaign in Yemen.

Over 10,000 people have been killed during the war in Yemen and 8.4 million are suffering famine.
