TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – Iranian students totally collected 40 medals in 2018 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) and finished the event as runner-up.

The scientific competitions kicked off on July 12 and wrapped up today in Seoul’s Yonsei University, South Korea.

54 Iranian boy and girl students were sent to WMI who totally pocketed 8 gold, 18 silver and 17 bronze medals and also gained 14 honorary diplomas.

Representatives from 20 different countries had participated in 2018 WMI.

According to its official website, WMI gathers institutes and organizations worldwide that make efforts in promoting and popularizing mathematics. The competition (finals) is held in different countries every year. Through interacting with other math-loving students that represent their countries, students can expand their worldview, experience different cultures, and thus their horizon as well as their future will be broaden. WMI not only provides math-gifted students with an opportunity to participate in an international competition, but also allows the world to witness their competitive capabilities.

Founded in 2013, World Mathematics Invitational is a comprehensive competition, meaning that students from kindergarten to senior high school can all participate in the event.
