TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – The Iranian consulate in Erbil issued a statement on Tuesday Dec. 19 warning Iranian citizens not to approach the area of the ongoing demonstrations in the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The statement of the Iranian Consulate in Erbil strongly advises the Iranian citizens living in the Kurdistan Region to be careful to keep their distance from the location of the ongoing protests in some cities in the region in order not to get harmed.

It has been reported the that protesters in the Iraqi Kurdistan region have blocked the border gates of Bashmagh and Sīranband on the border with Iran.

While the situation in the capital Erbil is reported to be calm for now, thousands of angry Kurdish protesters have stormed the offices of five main political parties in parts of the region setting them ablaze.

The Kurdish news outlets reported yesterday five protesters were killed and dozens more were injured during the protests.

People are angry about the continued delay in paying the public sector salaries, lack of public services and corruption.
