The Governor of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran Valiollah Seif made the remark in response to a claim that bank accounts of Iranian customers have been closed in some countries under the ‘Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act’ (CATSA). He was speaking on Sunday evening after a meeting with the Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chen Yuan, and in response to a question about alleged closing bank accounts of Iranians in the UAE, Turkey and the United Kingdom due to CATSA law enforcement.
Reacting to the previous claims about closing Iranians’ bank accounts in China, Seif added that in the meeting “I told the Chinese side about Iran's readiness to reach a monetary agreement (swap agreement) similar to what we recently signed with Turkey. We can use this tool to facilitate monetary transactions with China. Earlier this year there were rumors about closing the bank accounts of Iranian students in China, which was discussed at the meeting, and Chen Yuan declared that they will look into the issue.”
