French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday called on Iraq to dismantle all militias, including the Popular Mobilization Forces, reported Reuters.
The French President’s call for dissolution of the volunteer forces, comes at the time that most analysts believe that Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), or Hashd al-Shaabi also known as Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), have played a bold role in eradicating the ISIL terrorists in Iraq.
Macron made the remarks after a meeting with Iraqi Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani in Paris, addressing a press conference
The Hashd al-Shaabi Force is comprised of Iraqi volunteers who yessed the call of clerics for saving the war-torn country and it enjoys the approval of Iraqi parliament which has put the military body in the formal skeleton of Iraqi armed forces.
Contributing to the unity of the war-ravaged stats of the Middle East (Iraq and Syria), the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), has also been a major obstruction to disintegration plots underway in Syria and Iraq.
The new French president, also took anti-Iran stances while visiting UAE and Saudi Arabia in last month. Some political pundits believe that Macron is playing friendly to win arms contracts and earn more economic revenues out of Saudi hunger for western-made arms and weaponry.
