TEHRAN, Oct. 08 (MNA) – Iranian short documentary ‘Owsiah’ will be screened at the 31st Braunschweig International Film Festival in Germany. It will also be featured in Short On Taps, a London-based short film screening platform.

‘Owsiah’, directed by Alireza Dehghan is a 30 minute short film which will compete in the documentary genre of the Braunschweig festival which is slated for October 17-22, 2017. The festival will also feature ‘I Don’t Like Her’, a short film by Javad Daraie.

Prior to this, ‘Owsiah’ has won the award for best documentary at the 14th SCINEMA International Science Film Festival in Australia. The film has also bagged awards from film festivals in Turkey and the US.

‘Owsiah’ centers on Zarch Qanat which is the longest qanat in the Middle East, registered by UNESCO. The documentary recounts the demise of the qanat which is caused by the authorities’ negligence and a wrong lifestyle.

Founded in 1986, Braunschweig filmfest. is the oldest festival in Lower Saxony, Germany. Started by a handful of cinema enthusiasts it has developed into an audience festival for 25,000 visitors. Around 280 film industry professionals – filmmakers, actors, producers, composers, press – attend the festival to see about 170 full-length and short films on six screens. Since 2009 the festival operates its own cinema, the ‘UNIVERSUM Filmtheater’, with two screens for 87 and 207 seats.
