TEHRAN, Sep. 22 (MNA) – The 6-member squad of Iran’s national chess team of the visually impaired players scooped three gold medals at Bishkek games.

At the end of the week long games of the First Asian Chess Championship for Disabled, held in Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek, Iranian National Chess Team of the visually impaired garnered three gold medals.

After seven tournaments of games, the five men and one woman of Iran’s squad, Seddigheh Sargazi won the gold medal of women, Amir Rabbi the gold medal of under-12 section, and Omid Karimi gold medal of under-18 section.

The other members of the Iranian outfit were Mohammad Dousti who ended fourth, Mohammad Alizadeh who landed 11th, and Erfan Alizadeh who finished 13th.

Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, hosted the first Chess Championship of Asia among persons with disabilities from 15 to 21 September with participants from 10 countries of Asia – Afghanistan, Bhutan, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and one oceanic nation – Australia.

More than 100 players with full and partial hearing and vision loss, as well as persons with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders participated in the competition.

Seven tournaments were held among three age groups – children over 12 years old, youth under 18 and adults over 18, contest in the discipline “Classical Chess”.
