Cavusoglu emphasized his country wants to be a member of the European Union. "This keeps being our strategy and our election", he expressed.
But he lamented that the main parties of the community bloc "are using the same language and racist speech" and recommended "to focus on their own domestic affairs and not on those of Turkey or Hungary".
Regarding the failed coup d'etat of July, 2016, the Spanish foreign minister said that 21 percent of his ministry were expelled for being "members of a terrorist organization" and considered that the lack of support of the EU to Ankara after the military attempt cooled in Turkey the wish to enter the group.
The speech of Cavusoglu was delivered as part of the 12th Strategic Bled Forum, held in Ljubliana on Monday and Tuesday, where also the informal meeting of Foreign Ministers met as part of the Southeast Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP).
The Turkish foreign minister also held bilateral meetings with his peers from Albania, Ditmir Bushati and Slovenian Karl Erjavec, as well as the head of EU diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.
