TEHRAN, Sep. 03 (MNA) – Iran has dismissed the recent UN human rights report on the Islamic Republic as baseless and biased, saying such ‘politicized’ and ‘selective’ approaches undermine the credibility of human rights status in the world.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi was reacting to Asma Jahangir’s recent UN report on human rights in Iran, adding “the Islamic Republic of Iran does not recognize the report compiled by the UN rapporteur and believes that her mission is based on totally political and selective goals of certain specific countries with certain purposes, and considers it to be totally invalid and unacceptable.”

“Regrettably, in spite of our repeated, detailed, and well-documented responses to these unfounded allegations, the content of the report is still based on a series of inaccurate information and prejudices about the human rights situation in Iran, using unreliable sources, which severely compromises the credibility of the report,” Ghasemi said.

He went on to add, “the UN special rapporteur seems to have been blind to numerous human rights progress in Iran, and has continued to use vague phrases and express undue concerns based on unreliable information in an attempt to present a dark, one-sided view of the human rights situation in Iran.”

“We believe that the use of politicized, repetitive and selective approaches by a few number of countries toward the human rights issue, especially in the face of blatant dismissal of human rights violations in Yemen, Bahrain, Myanmar, etc., will result in the weakening of the status of human rights in the world and further reveal the hypocrisy of so-called defenders of human rights ,” the Iranian diplomat concluded.
