TEHRAN, Sep. 01 (MNA) – Parviz Shahbazi and Masoud Radaei’s co-direction ‘Malaria’ won 2 awards at the 10th International Film Festival “East&West” in Orenburg of Russia.

Malaria, starring Saghar Qanaat, Saed Soheili, Azarakhsh Farahani and Azadeh Namdari, grabbed the Best Film Award and Best Actress’s Performance for Saghar Ghanaat Award in Russian event.

Malaria narrates the story of a young woman who elopes with her boyfriend to Tehran. To cover her tracks, she tells her father she’s been kidnapped. With her family in hot pursuit, the couple takes up with a band of bohemian street musicians and forms an elaborate plan for a more permanent escape. Mixing real-life on-the-streets footage with a tense lovers-on-the-run drama, Festival alum Parviz Shahbazi crafts a lively look at the cultural clashes that exist deep within Iranian society.

The Iranian feature film made its first international premier at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

Receiving the award, Masoud Radaei said the true winner and hero of the film are peaceful peoples of Iran and the proud youth like Martyr Mohsen Hojaji, whom I offer the award.
