Rouhani made the remarks on Sunday in a ceremony to renew allegiance to the late Imam Khomeini, accompanied by his cabinet members.
"Imam Khomeini taught us to move the government forward through the referendum and with the votes of the people set out the representatives of the Assembly of Experts; after the formulations of the Constitution by the nation’s representatives he put it to the vote again," said Rouhani..
Imam Khomeini introduced the ballot box for the continuation and strengthening of the democratic system, he added.
"If we lacked the free elections and the comments of Imam Khomeini, “the measure of a nation is its vote”, perhaps we were not today on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution" Rouhani said.
He stressed Iranian nation, after experiencing four years of 11th government, once again chose the same president; "today there is no time for trial and error, and we have to take the key measures for the future with the strongest will."
“Leader’s guidelines, along with Iranian nation’s support, encouragement and support, will surely help us overcome problems,” he noted.
Rouhani, emphasizing that we are not afraid of foreign threats and conspiracies, said “we don’t fear foreign threats, because we learned that from Imam; Imam did not bat an eyelid during the 8-year war, where all the powers supported the aggressors against Iran, and he taught us how a nation with strong will can stand against all kinds of conspiracies.
The president expressed his hope that the new government, along with the support and presence of people on the scenes, could overcome the great problems it would face.
Rouhani said the presence and endeavors of the Iranian people in the presidential elections of May 19th and the support and guidance of Imam Khomeini’s grandson led to such a major political epic in Iran.
