TEHRAN, Jun. 21 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker has forwarded a message of condolences to his Portuguese counterpart over the country's deadliest forest fires claiming the lives of at least 62 people on June 17.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has forwarded a message to his Portuguese counterpart Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, extending his condolences and solidarity to the Portuguese government and nation, as well as families of victims of Portugal’s deadliest forest fires.

He further wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the wildfire tragedy.

Forest fires claimed lives of at least 62 people, 47 of whom died on one road as they fled flames in their cars. The cause is said by Prime Minister Antonio Costa to be a lightning strike. Over 150 people have sustained injuries, many of whom in critical condition. More than 1,100 firefighters are still tackling the fire.
