Premier Khamis made his remarks during a meeting with the new WFP Executive director David Beasley and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation and means to further enhance them in a way that serves the implementation of the WFP plan in Syria.
Premier Khamis reviewed the government’s efforts to empower Syrian families and provide support to them through spreading family farming, home gardens, rural women projects, micro-enterprises and small handicraft workshops.
He underlined the importance of putting more pressure on the western governments to end the siege imposed on the Syrian people, noting that Syria has great expertise in dealing with humanitarian crises caused by wars.
For his part, Beasley said that the visit aims at boosting cooperation with the Syrian government to meet the needs of the Syrian people, hailing the continued cooperation and coordination between the WFP team and the Syrian government in this regard.
In this regard, Local Administration and Environment Minister Hussein Makhlouf said that Syrian government bears the largest burden to secure the humanitarian and food needs to those affected by the terrorist war, adding Syria provides the international organizations, operating in the relief field, with necessary facilities to deliver the humanitarian aid to the people in need.
