NEW YORK, May 03 (MNA) – The World Food Program (WFP) demanded Tuesday more funds to help the Central African Republic, a nation receiving each time less financial support and resources, and at the same time, facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the planet.

Fifty percent of the Central African population needs humanitarian support, more than 2 million are suffering hunger, according to a statement by the Spokesperson for the United Nations Stéphane Dujarric.

Despite this, the plan for response by the WFP only counts on 7 percent of financial support.

The lack of funds has forced WFP to reduce the food supplies distributed in the Central African Republic by 50 percent.

In his statement, Dujarric said WFP needs an immediate support of  12.5 billion dollars until October 2017, to satisfy the urgent needs of the most vulnerable people.

The Human Rights Observatory reported Tuesday that dozens of civilians died and 11,000 more were displaced in the last three months, because of the clashes by armed groups to get control of a province in that African nation.

The armed groups are attacking civilians in the central province of Ouaka, said the organization in its report.
