By the end of the 2nd day, the Election Headquarters announced, 287 people had definitely registered in the presidential elections; the 1st day saw registration of 126 individuals. Would-be candidates should register by Saturday, April 15.
Notable among the registered personalities are Seyed Mostafa Hashemitaba, former deputy-president and a candidate in the 8th presidential elections back in 2001. Seyed Mohammad Gharazi, cabinet minister in different governments, also registered in. He was a candidate in the final list of nominations, but came only last, as he ran for office as independent and secured only 1.22 per cent of the all votes cast.
In the 3rd day, of 122 people, only 64 have been registered in. Other heavy-weight figures such as Tehran's Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf would soon appear in the Headquarters to join the list which will be sent to the Guardian Council for examining their qualifications.
