In a message to Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Wed., Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, condemned the recent terrorist attack in St. Petersburg metro, and expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences over the death of a number of innocent people.

“The heinous crimes of terrorist groups against innocent civilians prove that an affective and comprehensive fight against these inhuman elements, the intellectual origins of terrorism and their sponsors must be regarded as the number one security priority of the international community,” Shamkhani said in the message.

Shamkhani highlighted the strategic cooperation between Iran and Russian in the fight against terrorism, adding “certainly, the blind moves of defeated terrorists will not make the slightest dent in the strong resolve of countries fighting at the frontline against Takfiri terrorism, but will in fact provoke a more vehement response from these countries.”
