The Iranian Ambassador to Moscow strongly condemned the Monday terrorist attack in St. Petersburg metro system which killed at least 11 people and injured 45 others, saying “the explosion in the northern capital of Russia astounded the Russian nation for a number o reasons.”
“The Russian people had not experienced a serious threat and terrorist attack for nearly 15 years, and peace and security were the dominant social status of the country,” he said.
“On the other hand, such threats occurred in the past mostly in Moscow or the southern parts of the country, and the Monday terrorist attack in St. Petersburg was the first attack there, which grabbed the world’s attention due to its being a popular tourist spot,” he added.
He further called for a serious will and collective efforts from all countries to combat terrorism.
