The International Military Sports Council (CISM) is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world which is in charge of organizing various sporting events for the armed forces of its 134 member countries.
Tehran hosted the 5th CISM conference this morning with participation of representatives from Qatar, Oman, South Korea, North Korea, China, Japan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
CISM organizes one annual summit prior to which each continent holds its own separate conference. Three countries including Iran are in charge of CISM in Asia.
Deputy Coordinator at Ministry of Defense and Support for Armed Forces Logistics (MODSAF), Alireza Tamizi, addressed the conference in Tehran, saying “sport carries the message of peace and friendship and has a significant role in bringing countries closer together.”
“Sport bridges the interests of countries and expands relations in various fields on the international scene,” he added.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is of the belief that sport can prove very effective in establishing peace and security in the world,” he stressed.
CISM annually holds over 20 Military World Championships for approximately 30 different sports, continental and regional competitions, the Military World Games and most recently Winter Games and World Cadet Games. CISM also invests in sport for peace activities and solidarity as one of its main initiatives.
