In the statement issued by 110 MPs over Farhadi’s winning the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film, MPs noted that invaluable presence of an Iranian film in the eighty-ninth Academy Awards ceremony indicates intellectuality, gentleness and capacity of the Iranian cinema in the era of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Representatives of the Iranian people also congratulated the success of ‘The Salesman’ to Asghar Farhadi and the cast and crew involved in the films and wished further prosperity for Iranian artists in domestic and international arenas.
“Awarding the Oscar prize to an Iranian artist clearly debunked unsubstantiated claims made by the new American president on hostility with the Iranian nation and manifests a global civil bow before greatness of Iran’s culture,” the statement reads.
Iranian acclaimed director Asghar Farhadi won his second Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film Sunday evening local time at the 89th Academy Awards.
Farhadi won Iran’s first Oscar for his film A Separation in 2012. This second award puts him in an elite category of double-winners in the category.
