TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) – Al Sadd iconic player Xavi Hernandez refuted claims that some of Iranian fans are uncivilized.

An Emirati side reported on Wednesday that former Barcelona midfielder was angry with Esteghlal fans during the match against Iranian team in the AFC Champions League play-off.

According to the site, Xavi said he is displeased with fans’ behavior in the match.

During Thursday’s Al Sadd training session, Xavi told his Iranian teammate Moretza Pouraliganji he has never interviewed against Iranian fans.

“I respect a lot the Iranian people and in my career I’ve never seen the atmosphere like that. Thank you to everybody,” Xavi told Pouraliganji.

Al Sadd was knocked out in the penalty shootout in the match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in front of more than 70,000 spectators.
