"We must take the necessary steps to make our historical aspiration to be united and integrated true, with the right economic, social and envirohnmental integration,"said diplomat Biana Leyva, Cuban representative.
In her intervention, the Cuban representative and official of the Cuban Permament Mission before the United Nations insisted on the idea that unity is a necessary factor to go forward for sustainable development and welfare.
Leyva thanked the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Alicia Bárcena, the presentation of the regional economic and Social landscape.
"This has been an enriching moment that reflects the possibilities of the region to find solutions, the hand with the seriousness and depth with which the ECLAC traditionally assumes its work, and in particular its interest in supporting the efforts of our countries to face the current economic and financial crisis worldwide," she said.
Regarding the preparations for the first forum sponsored by the entity on sustainable development, scheduled in Mexico City from April 26 to 28, the diplomat expressed the expectations of the island.
"You must serve to identify the priorities, challenges and strengths as a region in development, according to devise concrete strategies of action," she stressed.
According to Leyva, the Latin American and Caribbean Forum is an opportunity to promote cooperation, regional integration and Exchange based on common interests, best practices and effective policies.
"We believe that we will find the framework to establish areas of policy to address specific critical areas of sustainable development, and thus to promote action in the framework of national plans," she finally said.
