TEHRAN, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi highly regarded French foreign minister’s visit to Iran.

According to his responsibility as head of the French-Iranian Joint Economic Commission and position as a foreign minister, visit of Jean-Marc Ayrault is considered very important for Iran, Ghasemi said on the sidelines of a ceremony held on Monday to honor Foreign Ministry retirees.

“France is one of the major European countries and two hundred years of Iran-France political and diplomatic relations have paved way for extensive cooperation between the two countries during the past decade in the political, economic and cultural fields,” Ghasemi noted.

He also underlined that French presence in Iran’s companies, factories and fields of knowledge and technology is tangibly visible, however, there has been ups and downs in bilateral relations due to various reasons in the past decade.

In the political sphere, based on French presence in the region and its familiarity with the Middle East and relatively common positions between the two countries in the past, we can make basic consultations in the current period over Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and Iraq, Ghasemi noted.
