TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s FM spokesman briefed reporters on safety and security measures issued to embassies in the vicinity of Plasco high-rise commercial building that collapsed on Thu. due to massive fire.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi while expressing deep regret over the tragic incident, said “from the first few minutes the fire broke out at Plasco Shopping Center, the condition of embassies of Germany, Turkey and UK that were close to the site of the incident were quickly monitored by diplomatic police, rescue workers, law enforcement and the Protocol Directorate General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

“Fortunately, all necessary measures of safety and security were implemented for these embassies with the immediate coordination and consultation among these various bodies,” he added.

“At the moment, these three embassies are under full security and safety control,” he stressed.

Ghasemi further voiced gratitude and appreciation for the tremendous efforts of rescue workers, security forces and police in this mission.

A 17-storey Tehran commercial building collapsed on Monday after heavy blaze engulfed it for four hours, injuring over 70 people and killing at least 20 firefighters. Search and rescue operations are still underway.
